Extract PDF Pages

Save just the pages you need from a long PDF as a file of their own — one clause of a contract, a chapter of a report, an annex, a single month from a year of statements. Type the pages, press the button, and download a new PDF containing exactly those pages.

How to use it· 4 steps
  1. Drop the PDF into the box above.
  2. Leave the method on Pick pages.
  3. Click the pages you want in the preview, or type them, such as 3 or 2-5, 9, 14-, and check the pages listed under the box.
  4. Press Extract and download the new file.

Extracting is the opposite of deleting

When you need three pages out of eighty, listing the three is far quicker than deleting the other seventy-seven. Extracting does exactly that: you name the pages to keep, and they are copied into a new PDF in their original order. The source file is left untouched, so you can extract different sections for different people from the same document.

It is the everyday answer to “just send me the relevant part”. An insurer wants the policy schedule, not the 40-page wording. A colleague needs chapter four. A visa application asks for the bank statement for one month, and the bank's PDF covers the year.

Writing the page range

A single number takes one page: 7. A hyphen takes a run: 2-5 is pages two to five. Commas combine them: 1, 3, 8-10 gives five pages. Open-ended ranges save counting — 14- means page fourteen to the end, and -3 means the first three pages. The pages the range selects are listed under the box as you type, so a typo is obvious before you extract anything.

The extracted file always keeps the document's own order, and asking for a page twice includes it once. If you need pages in a different order — page 9 before page 2 — extract them, then rearrange the result with Organise PDF.

Numbers count physical pages from the start of the file, not the page numbers printed on them. A report with six pages of front matter has its printed page 1 at position 7; if the two disagree, use the page position your PDF reader shows in its toolbar.

Quality, size and what comes across

Pages are copied as objects, not re-rendered: text stays selectable, vector drawings stay sharp at any zoom, and images are not recompressed. The extracted pages are identical to the originals.

The new file carries only the fonts and images its own pages use, so a short extract from a large document is usually small — unless the pages you chose hold the large scanned images, in which case the weight comes with them.

Bookmarks, form-field interactivity and digital signatures do not come across, because they belong to the original document; a signature in particular cannot survive into a different file. Links to pages that were not extracted will have nowhere to go.

Other ways the same tool can split

The method menu offers two more jobs. Split into fixed-size chunks breaks a document into files of a set number of pages — useful for a batch of two-page invoices scanned as one file. One file per page turns every page into its own PDF, for certificates or receipts that were collected together.

Extracting, splitting and merging are all lossless, so they combine freely: extract sections from two reports and merge them into one briefing pack, or delete a few pages with Delete PDF Pages first and extract from what remains.

Extract, delete or split — which to use

Extract when you know which pages you want: “pages 12 to 15” or “the annex at the end” is a range in one line. Delete when you know which pages you do not want and would rather see them — blank scans, a cover sheet — because Delete PDF Pages shows every page as a thumbnail. Split into chunks when one file is really a batch of same-length documents, and into single pages when every page stands alone.

If you are not sure of the page numbers, open the PDF in any reader first and note the positions from its page counter, or use the thumbnails in Delete PDF Pages to find them. Extracting the wrong range costs nothing — the original is untouched, so just run it again.

When the goal is not a smaller PDF but something else, other tools fit better: PDF to JPG saves pages as images, PDF to Text pulls out the words, and Crop PDF trims a page down to the part you need.

Answers

Frequently asked questions

How do I extract just one page?

Type its number, such as 7, in the page box and press Split PDF. The new file contains only that page.

Can I extract pages that are not next to each other?

Yes. A range like 1, 4, 9-11 puts those pages into one new PDF, in document order.

Does the original file change?

No. Extracting copies pages into a new file; the original is untouched.

Will the extracted pages lose quality?

No. Pages are copied as they are, without re-rendering or recompression.

Can I change the order of extracted pages?

Pages keep the document's order. Extract them, then rearrange the new file with Organise PDF.

Can I extract pages from a password-protected PDF?

Remove the password first with Unlock PDF, then extract from the unlocked copy.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The pages are extracted in your browser.
