PNG or JPG for PDF pages?
PNG is the right choice when the page is mostly text, tables, line art or a diagram. It is lossless, so the edges of letters stay hard rather than picking up the faint halos that JPEG produces around high-contrast detail — the artefacts that make an exported page look subtly wrong when it is pasted into a slide.
JPG is the right choice when the page is mostly photograph, or when the export has to be small. A text page exported as PNG can be several times the size of the same page as JPEG, and for a 40-page document that difference is the one that decides whether the ZIP is emailable.
The tool offers both, and this page simply opens on PNG. If you find your PNGs are larger than you expected, that is the format behaving correctly: it is preserving every pixel exactly, which is what makes it the safe default for documents.
Why export pages as images at all
Because a great many systems accept pictures and not documents. Chat apps preview an image inline and hide a PDF behind a download; slide decks and word processors place an image cleanly and embed a PDF awkwardly; some upload forms take JPG or PNG only; and a page pasted as an image cannot be reflowed, re-selected or accidentally edited by whoever receives it.
The other common reason is extraction: a single figure, a stamp, a signature block or a chart that lives inside a PDF and is needed on its own. Rendering the page and cropping the part you need is usually faster and always more reliable than trying to pull the original object out of the file's internals.
It is worth being clear about what you lose. An exported page is a picture: the text stops being text, so it can no longer be searched, selected or read by a screen reader. If the document is going to someone who needs the words, send the PDF. If you need the words yourself, extract the text instead.
Resolution, and how large the files get
Resolution is the only setting that really matters here. Rendering at screen resolution produces pages that look right on a display and blur when printed; rendering at 300 DPI produces pages that print like the original and files several times the size. Pick by destination: a slide or a chat message needs far less than a print shop.
Long documents multiply that choice by the page count. A hundred pages at print resolution is a large ZIP by any standard, and if what you actually need is three figures out of those hundred pages, exporting the whole document at maximum resolution is a slow way to get them. Split the PDF first, or export at a moderate resolution and re-do the pages that matter.
Everything renders locally. The PDF is parsed and drawn by your browser, so contracts, medical records and identity documents are never transmitted — the usual answer to 'pdf to png' is a site that takes the upload first and renders it on a server you know nothing about.

Why is my PNG so much bigger than the PDF page?
Because a PDF stores a page as instructions — draw this text in this font here — while a PNG stores the finished pixels, losslessly. A text page that costs a PDF a few kilobytes of instructions costs a PNG every pixel it renders to. Lower the resolution, or export as JPG, if size matters more than exactness.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
