What this tool can and cannot do
It removes protection from a document you have legitimate access to. If the file opens with a password you know, entering that password lets the tool decrypt it and save an unencrypted copy. If the file opens without a password but blocks printing or copying, it can remove those restrictions directly.
It cannot recover or guess a password you do not have. That is not a policy position, it is arithmetic: an encrypted PDF's content is genuinely unreadable without the key derived from the password, and no amount of clever software changes that. Any site claiming to crack an unknown PDF password is either running a dictionary attack that only works on weak passwords, or lying.
The intended uses are the ordinary ones. A document you encrypted yourself and now need to merge. A statement from your bank that arrives locked with a password you know, which you need to submit unlocked. A report with copy-protection that you need to quote from with permission.
Two kinds of lock behave differently
A user password (open password) encrypts the content. The file will not display at all without it, and you must supply it here for the tool to do anything.
An owner password (permissions password) leaves the content readable but sets flags asking readers to disable printing, copying or editing. Files like this open normally, which is why so many people are confused to find they cannot select the text. Because the content is not actually encrypted, these restrictions can be removed without any password — leave the password field blank and the tool will handle it.
If you are not sure which you have, try it without a password first. If the file needs one, the tool will say so and ask.
Why the password must not be uploaded
Sending a confidential document to a server is one exposure. Sending its password in the same request is a much bigger one, and yet that is precisely what a server-side unlock tool requires you to do.
Here, both stay in your browser. The file is decrypted locally and a clean copy is rebuilt in memory. Nothing is transmitted at any point, which you can confirm from your browser's network panel or by going offline after the page has loaded.
Please only unlock your own documents
Removing protection from a document you are not authorised to modify may breach the terms you received it under, and in many jurisdictions circumventing access controls on copyrighted material is unlawful regardless of technical ease.
The legitimate cases are straightforward and common: your own files, documents you have been given permission to process, and files where the restriction is an obstacle to a use the sender clearly intended — a bank statement you need to attach to a mortgage application, for instance.

Can this crack a password I do not know?
No. Encrypted content is unreadable without the key derived from the password. You must be able to open the document already.
